Shri. Kameswar Singha (Prime Minister Awardee Teacher) & Dr. Ranjit Sinha (Member Secretary of ICSSR): By Sudip Sinha

Shri. Kameswar Singha, hailing from Dudhpur, a remote village of Cachar district was an educationalist and a social activist. His father, Late Girish Chandra Singha was a Sanskrit teacher in the early 20th century. After completing his secondary education, Kameswar Singha went to Murari Chand College, Sylhet (present Bangladesh), then was affiliated with the University of Calcutta, from where he graduated in English in 1939. Later on, he studied M.A. (English), B.T. and D.P.Ed. as well. He was a Prime Minister awardee teacher who taught in many schools in Barak Valley. He also served as the President of Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha.

Dr. Ranjit Sinha, eldest son of late Kameswar Singha served as the Member Secretary of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Rural Sociology from North Bengal University, West Bengal. He is known for his academic contribution in the form of several research articles and books namely, Alternatives in Education especially Primary Education: Population and Development, Analytical Study of India and South Korea (2001), Energy Security in India and Russia.
