Manipuri Theatre, Bangladesh Theatre and Drama played an important role in the development of art and culture of the Bishnupriya Manipuri Community. It is said that the pioneer in playwright from both India and Bangladesh is "Gokulanondo Gitiswami". His plays "Matrimongol" and "Samaj Sanskar" created a revolution in the field of Bishnupriya Manipuri drama. Many drama movements during the twentieth century flourished under reputed dramatists like Lt. Aswini Kumar Sinha, Debadatta Sinha and Indra Kumar Sinha hailed from Narsingpur, Silchar. In the later years another dramatist and actor Sri Birendra Sinhä of Tinokhal ( Patharkandi) continued the drama culture and popularised it by forming his own team " Joly Opera".
